My name is Lucy Chaundy and I have just completed my first year as a law student.
I study at The University of Law in Leeds. 4 years ago while I was completing my A-Levels at Oxford College I wanted to attend this university. Due to medical reasons, I did not manage to get the grades I needed to be able to further my education.
I took a year out of education completely. I moved to Stirling, Scotland, where I knew nobody. This was going to be a fresh start for me. During this year I kept looking to develop my education in order to further my career and ambition of being a barrister. I attended court hearings in Scotland and although the law is different it still gave me an insight of where I wanted to be. I started my first part-time job; which although tiring I thoroughly enjoyed. It made me a more confident person and brought out a different side of me that I know I would need for the future.
I also began studying with the Open University, which allows you to study online. This helped me to start the long process of becoming a barrister. I feel as though this also helped me with motivation, determination, and self-discipline (all very key skills you need when studying law).
I stopped studying with the Open University due to losing my eyesight; this was incredibly scary for me. Although for the past 18 years I have only had to ability to see through my left eye, losing your eyesight entirely completely changes how you see things (or not in my case). A very long story short, I managed to regain my eyesight back with an operation and now can see more than I ever could before. After regaining my sight I wanted to see if I could get into The University of Law (my dream university), which obviously I did.
Now one year later after starting with The University of Law, I am now preparing myself to start my second year.
